The five-pass method
- Read a concise overview without trying to memorise it.
- Watch or listen to a complete performance.
- Return to one key scene and mark shifts in tone, address, and power.
- Compare two characters’ accounts of the same event.
- Form a claim that another reader could reasonably challenge.
