   Meg is afraid of the unknown, but Mrs. Whatsit's fear is of the known.  She knows what is at stake, she knows what the cost will be, both for herself and for the children. 

   She fears the grief felt in going from a state she loved (being a star) to her present existence.  Yet her fear did not prevent her from consciously making the choice.  Knowing this pain, she fears for Meg and her acceptance of this pain as she makes the choice of fighting evil.

   In the battle against evil, loss is inevitable in order to gain much good.
