Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?

In "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been" could Connie's expectations have been different if she was not good-looking?

Connie's looks are very important to her and to this story, yes.  Connie was a vain, conceited person who was deceitful and manipulative, and she used her looks to her advantage.  What Connie did not realize was that her vanity and arrogance were big problems that ended up causing an even bigger problem for her...the possibility of losing her life.  She let her vanity get in the way of seeing Arnold Friend for the dangerous man he was.  She was easily sucked into his manipulations because of her vanity.  

Connie was not any more vain, deceitful, or manipulative than any other fifteen year old girl, and her vanity was not the cause of her fate. Connie was sucked into Arnold Friend's manipulations because she was a little girl who was naive and scared, not because she was vain.

 Her vanity is one of the prime reasons that she was able to fall into Arnold Friend's manipulations, absolutely, and I do not agree that she was not any more vain than any other fifteen year old girl.  I certainly did not do the things Connie did to garner attention at ANY age LOL.
