The scene is set on an island at the mouth of Prospero’s cave where he and Miranda have been living for the past 12 years. From the shore they have been watching the sinking ship and listening to the heartrending cries of the people on board. Aware that her father has raised the tempest with his magic, Miranda begs him to calm the “wild waters” and end the suffering. Prospero assures her that no harm...
